Winston L. Skerritt

Alcohol and Drug Assessment and Referral Specialist, located at Onondaga County DSS, Syracuse, NY

Although Mr. Skerritt began working for Prevention Network as an Alcohol and Drug Assessment and Referral Specialist in February, 2001, he originally came to Onondaga Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, Inc., as a Scholarship candidate for the 60-hour Credentialed Alcohol Counselor (CAC) Core Certificate Program, which he completed successfully, while working as a fulltime employee for Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare.

Winston began working in the chemical dependency profession in 1997, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center’s Guest House in Syracuse, NY, as a week-end Manager.   He joined Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare (SBH) as the first Residential Supportive Living Manager at the Hickey Street Residence.  He remained in that position until accepting employment with Arise Child and Family Services as an Employment Consultant.  His responsibilities involved assisting individuals with physicals disabilities, many of whom also had substance abuse indicators.

Winston then began working for Prevention Network in February, 2001.  He remained with the agency for approximately five years.  During that time he was a recipient of the Prevention Network Board of Director’s “UNSUNG HERO AWARD.”

Winston accepted a position as an Outpatient Chemical Dependency Primary Counselor for Pelion, Inc., and joined their staff February 14, 2005.  Fortunately, Winston returned to Prevention Network in April, 2006, and remains a significant member of the DSS Assessment and Referral Team located on the 2nd floor of the CIVIC Center.  He has also been employed as a part-time permanent Chemical Dependency Therapy Aide with Crouse Hospital Commonwealth Place since July 2004.  He is also a facilitator/educator for Onondaga County Stop DWI – Victim Impact Panel (VIP)

His contact number is 315-435-2253 x 144.
