Drinking Driver Program

“Each year, there are approximately 2000 DWI arrests in Onondaga County.” Prevention Network has proudly provided Drinking Driver Program (DDP) education to thousands of Central New York & Onondaga County Drivers for the last 25 years.  We are honored to have helped many individuals gain practical, useful information as part of completing their NYS-DMV or court-ordered requirements.

In 2011 the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services collaborated to standardize use of DDP statewide. As a result NYS DMV and NYS OASAS jointly implemented the evidenced-based Alcohol and Other Drug intervention/educational program PRIME for Life.  Thus NYS joined the ranks of nine other states that are using PRI statewide in Impaired Driver Programs.

This training offers participants the opportunity to gain, knowledge and skills to minimize the risk of further Alcohol and/or Other Drug driving incidents. As a result participants are recommended to develop a personal action plan to identify and address harmful choices that put all New Yorkers at risk for death, injury and other losses. This 7-week, 16-hour course includes 4 hours of NYS law and traffic safety information, and 12 hours of the Prevention Research Institute’s PRIME for Life curriculum.

DDP is not a treatment program; however, we do collaborate with treatment providers, NYS-DMV and other DDP programs to meet participant needs.  A list of approved DDP Treatment providers is available at our office or at http://www.oasas.ny.gov/dwi/IDS.cfm>Impaired Driver Services Information>NYS residents>Search, for a provider.

The DMV class registration fee and any license reinstatement fees are paid directly to NYS DMV prior to being placed on a roster.  The DDP program fee is $225.00, and all payments are due by the third session.  Prevention Network DDP Instructors are only authorized to accept cash, bank, and postal or other official money orders made payable to Prevention Network/OCAA.

Prevention Network regularly schedules classes Monday - Thursday evenings, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
