My Story
Anne
I was first introduced to Prevention Network when I was a school nurse. I was responsible for doing some of the health teaching for the high school and I needed a wide variety of resources. I needed a library to go to where I could find accurate and current information about subjects related to chemical dependency. I needed access to a variety of media that I could use to engage my audience. I needed the advice from trained professionals who work in the field of substance abuse. In short, I needed Prevention Network.
I found everything I needed under one roof at Prevention Network. I found videos on the subjects teenagers are exposed to like nicotine addiction and compulsive gambling and eating disorders. I found movies and teaching aids which included student activities, fact sheets, sample learning objectives and pre and post tests. I became such a regular visitor to the library at Prevention Network that I decided to sign up for one of their counselor training workshops. I was hooked.
I began the process of becoming a CASAC, part-time, while I continued to work as a nurse. I met interesting people from my community who were working in the field of addiction in a variety of roles, while I studied to become a CASAC. The training I received was excellent and the professional contacts I made were invaluable.
Today, I have a job that I love as a substance abuse counselor. I am still a regular visitor to the Prevention Network Library because there is no better place I know to find the articles, movies and media support for my work in this field.
