Youth and Teen Programs & Services
Prevention Network offers several different programs for youth/teens. Each program is briefly highlighted below. Click on any program title for additional information.
- Teen Institute is a peer leadership program for youth in grades 10-12 who are committed to changing the attitudes towards, and consumption of alcohol and other drugs among their peers.
- Reality Check (Youth Action Program) is a youth-led movement developed by the NYS Department of Health Tobacco Control Program in 2000, committed to exposing the manipulative and deceptive marketing practices of the tobacco industry.
- The S.Q.U.A.D - Students Questioning Under Age Drinking - was formed in the fall of 2005. These young people committed to challenging the culture of underage drinking in their communities.
- Project ALERT is an evidence-based model prevention program that uses participatory activites and videos with guided classroom discussion to stimulate peer interaction and challenge student's beliefs and perceptions. The program is offered over two consecutive years and is geared towards students in grades 6 and 7, or grades 7 and 8.
- Youth Development (YD) Program is geared towards highlighting and supporting resources, capabilities and potential which is inherent in all young people. We want to CELEBRATE who they are and CULTIVATE who they want to become. With a focus on emotional intelligence, peer leadership, coping and life skills, the YD program helps young people develop a life-long passion and commitment towards being healthy, resilient and drug-free.
- The Drug Quiz Show is a program for youth in 5th through 8th grade. Students learn about alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and high-risk behaviors through participation in a Jeopardy-style quiz show. These young people advance with their team to the state playoffs.
- Educational Presentations feature classroom-oriented presentations on a variety of issues related to alcohol, other drugs, and high-risk behaviors. Presentations are designed for a wide range of student audiences.
