Position: Community Educator (Full time Entry Level)

Job Type: Full-time

Hours: Maximum 35 hours weekly total 70 hours per pay period (bi-weekly)

Schedule: Weekdays + Weekend Availability

Purpose: Under the direction of the team leader/community education program coordinator, responsible for providing prevention education and other educational resources to youth and adults throughout Onondaga County.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote Health and Personal Development
  • Utilize Evidence Based materials to develop and implement lesson plans within the community
  • Gather accurate and up to date information to incorporate into the prevention education skill-based lesson plans and media awareness campaigns
  • Adolescent Education
  • Spend time in schools and with community groups
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, educators, community members, and health professionals to attain positive outcomes with a broad range of multi-ethnic and socio-economic groups.
  • Engage in outreach with schools and community groups within Onondaga and contiguous counties to make programming/services available to the region
  • Plan and implement Education workshops/ trainings
  • Format, plan, and implement adult training sessions for both community organizations and local businesses upon request
  • Engage in community outreach to increase awareness of available programming
  • General office assistance when needed
  • Phone coverage including directing calls from a multi-line phone system
  • Assist walk-in patrons
  • Pack and unpack resource boxes brought to tabling events; log literature dissemination accordingly
  • Other tasks as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Associate degree or education experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be able to adapt to different school environments (Onondaga County has 18 school districts)
  • Demonstrated understanding of age-appropriate learning strategies
  • Availability for some evening and/or weekend programming; flexible/nontraditional hours required
  • Reliable transportation
  • Some local and regional travel
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office suite is required, including Teams, Outlook, One Drive, Power Point, Excel and Word
  • Ability to work in an evolving, sometimes face paced environment
  • Willingness to represent Prevention Network with the public in a professional manner, both in-person and virtually

Supplemental skills/Experience (preferred but not required)

  • Youth development training experience
  • OASAS training experience
  • Evidence Based program training
  • Familiarity with Zoom and Survey Monkey

Salary: $40,000 per year
